An explanation why ganja causes munchies. For you "researchers" out there, of course.

"Be liberal in what you accept and conservative in what you send." (from RFC 1122, section 1.2.2, Robustness Principle)
Jon Postel, Internet pioneer

"Software should be written to deal with every conceivable error, no matter how unlikely; sooner or later a packet will come in with that particular combination of errors and attributes, and unless the software is prepared, chaos can ensue. In general, it is best to assume that the network is filled with malevolent entities that will send in packets designed to have the worst possible effect. This assumption will lead to suitable protective design, although the most serious problems in the Internet have been caused by unenvisaged mechanisms triggered by low-probability events; mere human malice would never have taken so devious a course!"

The hummingbirds are back! I noticed a male checking out the red maple outside my office Wednesday, and scurried to get some nectar made and the feeders hung. So far we've seen two males (dive-bombing each other) and a female. I'm a very happy camper...
From a recent repairclinic.com newsletter:
Air conditioning was not invented for comfort. In 1902, Willis Haviland Carrier, a recent engineering graduate of Cornell University, was hired by the Buffalo Forge Printing Company. Fluctuations in heat and humidity in the printing plant were causing the paper to change dimensions, which led to misalignment of the colored inks. Carrier created an air conditioning machine to add moisture to the air in order to create stable temperature and humidity levels in the plant. His success at Buffalo Forge made aligned four-color printing possible. Carrier came up with the concept of air conditioning while waiting for a train. It was a foggy night and he was going over in his mind the problem of temperature and humidity control. By the time the train arrived, Carrier had an understanding of the relationship between temperature, humidity and dew point. In 1928, Carrier developed an air conditioner designed for human comfort and private home use called the Weathermaker.
