training
wildwood, nj (2005-05-29)
Each year the Wildwoods International Kite Festival sets aside a flying field for sport kite manufacturers. They demonstrate their products and provide on-the-spot introduction to controllable kite flying. New Tech Kites was one of the demonstrators in 2005, as was Premier Kites.

Just your basic synthetic wishbone
Say, you there. The one with the 20 bags of potatos. Got a large family do ya? Family feuds break out every Thanksgiving over who gets the wishbone?
"Announcing a Revolutionary Advance in Plastic Wishbone Technology!
The LUCKY BREAK™ WISHBONE replicates that oh-so-rare Thanksgiving turkey wishbone we all know. After several days on the windowsill, we would all fight over it. After all, it came but once a year! Now, finally, there are enough to go around."

how did we miss this?
sirens, pete townsend, wa (2005-11-06)
So, we've been in Pete Townsend for what, about 5 months? And not only have we been going to Sirens not quite every week for all that time, we were there in January when we were looking for a house, and we were there in March when we bought druid labs pnw. But it was not until today, by chance, that we looked up in the hallway and said, "Whoa! When did that arrive?" A quick check with our favorite bartender Natasha, who asked if we really wanted to know the answer, and we discovered it's been there since last New Years. Duh.

The Domino Report for November 1
PETE TOWNSEND, Washington (Domino News) -- The Slaughter Resumes
Our intrepid players returned to Sirens this evening for the 21st Occasional Domino Game. After Innie got caught with 60 points (12 slashes) early on, the lead whipsawed during the remainder of the evening. It was not until the last hand that Innie stuck Outie with 72 points (14 slashes) and walked away the winner, 219 to 203. Innie now leads the series 11 games to 10.
Having heard reports of the Color Set's 2-6 temporary escape, the Standard Set's 0-1 leapt off the table and headed for the door. Unfortunately, not having legs proved to be an insurmountable obstacle and 0-1 was quickly recaptured.
Forced to be adventuresome this evening because there was "no pizza" (how can there be "no pizza"?!), Innie and Outie went for sandwiches: the Philly Cheesesteak and the House Club, with an entree of the Trio Dip (artichoke, black olive, and garlic dips, served with toasts).
Other Sirens' visitors this evening included a couple reading books (with their own book stands), the Tuesday Night Port Townsend Bluegrass and Fiddle Club Players, and a large parrot and his trained human.

an early morning treat
sydney airport, australia (1995)
This photo, and the one below, were taken after a 4-hour flight from Chicago to Los Angeles, followed by a 13-hour flight to Sydney. We landed in Australia at 6AM, more than a bit jet-lagged — and having to endure the tail end of a group of women on holiday: too much champagne. You don't want to know the details of that little episode. We had a 4-hour layover before a 3-hour flight to Cairns, and the benches thoughtfully provided by the airport were too inviting to pass up.
But the day-long flights were worth it: Australia is a beautiful place.
